The Career Assistance and Planning System (CAPS) web site is an interactive, system offering courses on the basics needed by individuals who are preparing to enter the job market. It is an on-line career assistance and planning tool whose focus is to ensure that students acquire the skills and knowledge needed to "get off on the right foot" as they enter into the previously unknown world of "earning a living".
CAPS provides courses on subjects related to:
CAPS delivers effective, up-to-date, course material in a convenient and user-friendly environment to the student. Access to the system is protected and tracked. Course completion information is maintained, enabling administrators to generate reports detailing the student's access and course completion. The student is encouraged to print out their exercises and place them in their personal portfolio to be used when they are applying for employment.
The courses offered within CAPS cover a broad variety of topics. The text-based courses are integrated with graphics to enhance user understanding and improve memory-retention. Each course provides a randomly generated multiple-choice/true-false exam upon completion of the course material. The user must pass the exam to receive credit for completing the courses. The results of the exam are logged into a database.
To assist the user in completing the final exam and gaining practical experience, each course is interspersed with exercises. These exercises allow the student to complete forms and write letters in an unthreatening way; thereby, giving them exposure to the types of forms they will be required to complete or the types of correspondence they will potentially write when they become employed. Also, provided with each course is a glossary of words with which the student may or may not be familiar. These are provided so that the student can view the word's definition in its context within the document.
CAPS provides a final exam for each course. The exams test the knowledge that has been gained by the student from the practical exercises and the course material. When a user fails the exam, he/she must re-read the material and try again. Since each exam is randomly generated from a pool of questions, the user cannot memorize the answers to complete the test.
The administrators or counselors associated with facilities are able to generate reports regarding the training accessed and completed by the students at their particular facility. Various reports exist currently and additional reports can be generated upon request.
Overall, the purpose of CAPS is to provide an easily accessible and useable website that provides quality pertinent assistance to students and assists administrators with maintaining and tracking the coursework being completed online by their students.
CAPS is built to be Section 508 compliant and to be SCORM compatible. If you are interested in obtaining information about how your facility can utilize CAPS to assist with career planning and preparation, please contact us at 1-800-301-5262 or send an email to caps@ssbinc.com.
